Biggles-Jones sighed in relief as she put the finishing touches on a hand held rail gun the size of a pistol. It was nowhere near the power of her larger models, but it would send a javelin like bolt through most armors meaning it had more power to it than any weapon it's size. It was more like a crossbow than an actual pistol, and only used electrical charges, and magnets instead of traditional propellants. More efficient, she hoped.

As Biggles-Jones overlooked her creation she was approached by the most advanced machine within COBRA. Although he was quiet heavy my most standards his unique foot design minimized the sound that his walking made. He had noted that the loud clanks were a potential weakness in certain situations so the matter had been redemied.
The advanced B.A.T Zeronus looked at the female figure seeking a drink. It was a new face to her so he ran her features through his access to the COBRA databanks. Her identity was soon confirmed.
"Greetings Dr. Biggles-Jones." Zeronus said in introduction. He had noted that such an act seemed to have great import for humans so he emulated it as best he could.

Biggles-Jones looked at the special BAT, "Hello, Zeronus. Here for a routine checkup, or modifications?" she didn't expect anything more since Cobra practically confined her to her lab since her initiation. Not that she couldn't do it, mind you. She'd looked over the basic BAT schematics since she had to tweak those, too. That and she's a genius. Still, despite her position in Cobra she greeted Zeronus with a smile, and part of her enjoyed the work. She didn't know this unit too well, and she had the notion that Cobra personnel couldn't be all bad, so she tried to bring out the good side.

"I am in no needs of repairs at the moment Dr. Biggles Jones. I wanted to greet you as I have read all your work and have been most impressed with it. Your grasp of the dynamics involved in the design of your rail gun are most impressive. My own advanced processors far outperform the brains of most here so I have found a distinct lack of individuals with sufficient intelligence to establish effective communications with."
Zeronus spoke with no trace of emotion in his voice or his featureless face but his words seemed to speak of the concept of friendship, one that should be alien to machines.
"I have worked on my own weapon designs but with little to no success." Zeronus said as he raised his right arm. His hand component slid inwards and panels slid out from each side as his arm now looked like a crossbow.
"Switching between hand components is quiet the annoyance so I have been trying to incorporate different components into one design. Fitting all the different systems needed is troubling however."
His statement does not seem to suggest that he wants her to make it for him. Instead he seems to be exploring what humans would call curiosity.

"Ah, the endless struggle to mix performance, and general function. It seems like you either perfect a function at the cost of ability to perform in other capacities, or generalize to the point of not being as strong in any one area." "I've been working on a hand held railgun design that might be helpful to you, but it's not compatible to your mountings so I'll have to whip up a new one over the next few days."
"Still, it's nice to know you're running well." She smiled at him a bit.
She never did like playing that hard nosed Cobra agent when she didn't have to. It's stressful, and stress is taxed her mentally, and physically and she needed that energy for other projects.

"I think it might be an inherent difficulty with ranged weapons. They hold too many parts and ammunition to make the process workable. Still, I find that the challenge creates some rather... odd reactions in my programming. I do not understand them very well but the challenge seems to push my programming forward ever more so."
Even though he was a machine there was times that Zeronus would speak with an almost innocene to him as he struggled to give definition to the emotions that came with sentinence.
"If you develop that for me I would be honored to test it."
He looked down at the gun that she had been working on as his systems carefully analyzed it.
"Dr. Biggles Jones, that your behaivior has me puzzled. You were taken from your laboratory, something that I understand would anger humans. You, however, seem most call. Would you please explain this behavior to me? I must admit to humans still being rather puzzling to me. This data would help me understand better."

"I don't know your full schematics. If you'd send it to me, I might be able to round out your abilities, but it sounds like you need an energy projection weapon." She smiled a bit. "Increased accuracy, and more ammo availability for the size."
Though her smile faded a bit as she were asked a question that no one had asked before. "Interesting question." she sighed a bit. "I'm not sure how to explain it properly. It's just that I just don't have it in me to sit in some cell and do nothing. I have resources here. Appreciation. I can work more freely here." she said calmly hoping her quick semi-lies and half truths would do. She couldn't say she were a spy, could she?

A communications screen located in the workplace of one of Cobra's chief researchers flickered to life. On the other end was an easily-recognized silver mask. Certainly for anyone in Cobra's operations, it was a face that was almost as widely recognized as the customary blue hood that the organization's former "Commander" was so fond of.
"Ah, our new project is up and about, I see. How is it adjusting?"
Destro paused for a moment, before his gaze turned upon the newly minted BAT model designate: Zeronus. A very costly project indeed, the B.A.T. Model 7685-Mark VII's had been almost an entire waste. Unit 8, however, had produced results even as it was on the verge of complete decomission. Destro had hoped the salvage and further investment would bear results.
"I suppose I should rephrase that: how are you adjusting, hm?"

"I'll let Zeronus answer how well it's adjusting. It'll be an interesting test of it's AI." She put on a small smile. "I was just receiving some interesting input from the Zero unit, and applying my intellect to improving the arsenal considerably. That will take time, however, but the applied knowledge toward Zero's equipment will directly benefit Cobra as a whole." She explained calmly envisioning all the possibilities while she simultaneously juggled Destro's desire for results, and his desire to not go financially into the red.

"What remains of those squematics have been classified by command, Dr. Biggles Jones. You will need to inquire to them about their adquisition." Zeronus said matter of factly. "However it should be easily modifiable if you use the typical B.A.T squematics."
Zeronus tilted his head slightly to the side as it analyzed the answer that he was given. "I see. Why is appreciation so important?"
As he finished asking the question his sensors told him that the view screen was being activated He turned towards it but he had already been identified from the location where the transmission was originating from. Destro, the leader of COBRA, and one of the few beings here whose intelect proved interesting to Zeronus. Zeronus saluted him as he entered.
"All necessary modifications to the developments in my programming are moving at satisfactory levels. Your soldiers, however, do not seem to be adjusting to me as quickly."
Zeronus knew that he was seen by most as just another B.A.T. Something that was quiet aggrevating to him although he could not properly identity the feeling as such.

Destro listened to Zeronus' concerns. It was certainly more than Cobra Commander would have ever done. He would've done nothing more than scoffed at the BAT and potentially disrupt any progress that was being made. Destro could not be certain if the Cobra officers would ever see him as anything more than a glorified BAT, but there was no need to make him aware of that fact.
Quite the opposite.
"Give it time. Once your usefulness to our cause has been field-tested in more, shall we say, offensive circumstances, I think the perceptions of your comrades will shift accordingly."

Night Stalkers Commander Rebecca Bristow approached Doctor Biggles-Jones' research lab, she was anxious to see her again. The woman walked into the area hearing Destro's voice, as Zeronus stood with Sydney by it's side. She stopped and was just about ready to leave, not wanting to intrude. She also needed to formulate a plan to free the Commander.

Biggles Jones offered a reassuring smile to Zeronus, then returned her attention to Destro incase he wanted anything.

Dr. Knox walked through the Halls towards the lab area, she noticed Night Stalker Commander Sydney Bristow watching in on one of the conferences between Destro, Dr. Biggles-Jones, and Zeronus. She was amazed at Zeronus AI progress, it had grown exponentially. Though she hated Bristow hanging around Biggles-Jones so much.
'A-Hem.' She spoke as she approached the room, alerting everyone to her arrival as well as Bristow's own pressence there.
'Night Stalkers Commander Bristow I suggest you leave this area, and do not bother the good Doctor, or Destro here, and the Commander will be let in on a little footage of you and your unit and Biggles-Jones.'

Zeronus' central processor could not understand how faulty the human mind was and why a superior intellect like Destro would be so willing to accept it. Not to mention that Destro had placed him in an impossible situation. He was supposed to demonstrate his worth in combat but his very uniqueness most likely would minimize the opportunity for that happening. Perhaps this feeling was the need for appreciation that Dr. Biggles Jones had mention. Still, in the end, he would not allow the opinions of inferior intellects to dictate his actions.
"Understood. I will be patient with their faulty processing." Zeronus said as his sensors picked up someone nearby. He accessed the security system of the base and could see the presence of the two women outside.
He continued to give his physical attention to Destro as his rank dictated. "Greetings Commander Bristow, Dr. Knox."
